Reading Journal 1 (GB 3)

Presently, Christians still make relevant connections in the twenty-first century from Pascal’s writings to the religion that they follow. One of these intriguing elements include the evaluation of God’s character. For example, Blaise Pascal wrote in his book Pensées during the seventeenth century: “The two Testaments look to Jesus Christ, the Old as its expectation and the New as its model, and both have him as their centre” (5). Christians in the first Testament looked to Jesus Christ as their savior and mediator. Similarly, Christians underneath the new covenant look to Jesus as both the physical and spiritual fulfillment of the character of God as demonstrated in the Old Testament. Both current and past Christians realize that God’s character is unchanging and does not deviate from His true essence. Illustrating God’s consistent character, Hebrews 8:13 says: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (King James Version). Accordingly, Christians from every century can agree that God’s character has not and will never change, but that He changes the way He shares his true essence.
