An Internal Reflection of my Soul

Religion and Spirituality

Sometimes, it feels like I am talking to the air.

But God, I know you are still there.

I will seek you Jesus.

I will relinquish my pride.

I won’t run and hide.

God, you know where to find me each time.

Hear my cry.

My actions reflect my inner thoughts. Romans 7:23 says “I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members” (ESV). My mind can be taken captive by either God or Satan. Be wary of the thoughts that enter your mind because they produce either good or bad consequences. Your true character will always be revealed in God’s timing. You cannot hide who you are even if you pick the best camouflage. In the end, objective truth defeats all lies.

Purpose, motivation, and direction: may I be motivated to achieve my purpose by following Jesus Christ. My purpose, and all other Christians’ purpose is to shed the light of Jesus Christ by both our words and actions. This purpose will take us down the right direction. The only thing that sets apart a Chrisitan from the life of a sinner in his worst spot is Jesus Christ. We were all sinners before Jesus saved us from ourselves.

Our worship is never challenged. We sit comfortably and refuse to move from our boxes. Jesus Christ calls us out of this comfort and into Him. God never told us that Christianity was an easy journey. Christianity is not just a religion, but a relationship with our most holy creator. A relationship with Him will be challenging, but Jesus Christ provides a way of escape through Him.

We can see the eternal degradation of man in literature, history, and in the present. It all started with the fall of man in the garden of Eden. Robert Frost wrote a couple of lines in his poem Nothing Gold can Stay: “So Eden sank to grief, / So Dawn goes down to day.” This poem talks about the old dying so that change can make everything blossom. Man can only blossom if he dies to himself and accepts his renewal in Christ Jesus.

Relationships

Friendships can be really shallow. Usually, people bond over shared interest or shared time. These friendships tend to be based on the sole reason of avoiding solitude. What makes a person a true friend? What is friendship? Is it the bond of the souls like a soulmate or is it something else entirely? The idea of soulmates comes from the pagan origins of Greek mythology where people were separated into two, so they spent the rest of their lives trying to find their other half. This view of a soulmate is contrasted by the Biblical view of a soulmate.1 Samuel 18:1b says “[T]he soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul (ESV). Are soul ties the result of two spirits bonding within Jesus? Just like every earthly matter, soul ties have the capacity to be corrupted. How do you keep a soul tie pure? Maybe behaving like David and Jonathan by pursuing Christ in every friendship and every relationship. Also, are the concept of soulmates and soul ties different?

Often, we change our personalities for our friends and family. Who are we really when there is no one left? Who are we when we lay our head to rest? What are the demons each of us face in the darkness? Where do we find our identity, if not in Jesus? If we do not find our identity in Jesus, then are we only the product of influence from others?

Homework:

It is really hard to write original thoughts. What if I inadvertently plagiarize someone by reading their work, then accidentally writing down their thoughts instead of mine? Therefore, I allow myself to become influenced by outside sources so much that their thoughts become my own.

How do you figure out how to write multiple pages of fluff? Sometimes, homework just feels like busy work. Is all homework really growing us as people, or is some of it useless?

Politics:

Politics has been intense lately. I told my friend that it is like Hollywood on crack.

The parties are very polarized right now, which the founding fathers were genuinely concerned about happening. It is always the Democratic Party vs. the Republican Party. The goal for Americans is to pursue the common good rather than their party affiliations. I think some of our country may have forgotten what the common good is for the U.S.

Death:

Christinia Rosetti writes many poems about death. She usually uses very peaceful descriptions such as the poem Dreamland. Her other poems not only deal with physical death, but spiritual death too. Her poem The Goblin Market is a prime example of this concept. One of the first parallelisms I found in this poem to Christianity was the object of the forbidden fruit. Laura ate the fruit and suffered the consequences of her sin, losing the symbol (her golden hair) of her purity and perfection. Her older sister basically functioned as the Messiah by not giving into the temptations of sin, but still taking on the punishment. In the end of the story, her sister is redeemed and restored to youthful purity. This concept can be traced back to the fact that we are all dead in sin, but Jesus Christ restores us to life in Him.

Many people do not like dwelling on death, but one of their favorite holidays is Halloween. That is completely counterintuitive. They say they do not like thinking about death, then they celebrate a day that is associated with the idea of death. Maybe, it is because Halloween turns death into entertainment which makes death seem less scary.
